Synopsis: The Star Trek Scouts travel to an ocean planet and have an undersea adventure.
This episode can be seen as an illustration of how individuals’ unconscious communicates differently than an individuals’ conscious ego, but when its needs are met, the psyche becomes more whole.
“Scouts Dive Into an Ocean Alien Planet!– Holodeck Rescues #9 began with the Star Trek Scouts seeing on the circular display monitor, that today’s holodeck rescue will involve rescuing Lumia fish that have been sucked into a giant whirlpool.
The Star Trek Scouts then entered the underwater holodeck program in their environmental suits. They observed the Lumia fish in the giant whirlpool and Sprocket tried to use his bionic arm in reacher mode to get them out, but he got caught in the whirlpool as well. Once inside he saw many things that also were captured by its currents. JR tried to use his transporter watch to transport things out of the whirlpool, and he did, but he was unable to rescue Sprocket. JR and Roo then decided to transport themselves into the aquapod vessel and take it into the whirlpool. They followed Sprocket to the bottom of the whirlpool where it was very dark. Once there, they turned on the vessel’s headlights and saw Sprocket. He showed them that the Lumia fish had been captured by a giant whirlpool crab. The Star Trek Scouts then realized that the crab was afraid of the dark and created the whirlpool to trap the Lumia because he needed their light. Sprocket built the crab a beautiful light from what was around them and the crab freed the Lumia fish.
In this episode, when the giant whirlpool crab created the whirlpool to capture the Lumia fish because he needed their light, this can be analogized to how an individual’s unconscious may try to express its needs to an individual’s conscious ego. And when the Star Trek Scouts realize the cause of the crab’s actions, this can be compared to when the conscious ego changes its own way of looking at things and tries to understand what the unconscious is trying to tell it. Once the message from the unconscious is addressed and honored, then the ego becomes stronger and the psyche more whole.
