Synopsis: The Star Trek Scouts come to the aid a Klingon farmer who is having a tribble problem.
This episode can be seen as an illustration of how what Carl (C. G.) Jung called a complex, is used to inform the conscious ego of unconscious material that needs to be acknowledged and integrated into it.
“Scouts Go Hunting For Fluffy Pink Aliens! – Holodeck Rescues #10” began with the Star Trek Scouts observing on the circular display monitor that today’s holodeck rescue will involve a tribble eating a Klingon farmer’s corn.
The Star Trek Scouts then entered the holodeck program and introduced themselves to the Klingon farmer. They told the farmer not to be afraid because it was just one little tribble and that they would trap him and send him safely back to his home planet. The Star Trek Scouts consulted their tricorder while explaining that the trouble with tribbles was that when they ate, they multiplied, so that they needed to trap this one before he did. They trapped the tribble with a tribble catcher, but it was too late. The tribble had multiplied and tribbles were everywhere. There were too many to trap in the cornfield. So, the Star Trek Scouts decided to lure the tribbles out of the cornfield using hot stinky tribble treats, and then led them onto a mega tribble transporter. This worked and the tribbles were all transported safely to their home planet.
In this episode, the first tribble can be analogized to a complex, one way in which an individual’s unconscious will make an individual’s conscious ego aware that there is some unconscious material that needs to be addressed. The Star Trek Scout’s trying to trap the tribble to send it home, can be compared to what happens when an individual’s conscious ego does not acknowledge the complex in a way that is appropriate, which causes it to get bigger or multiply. When the Star Trek Scouts decide that they need to handle the situation in a way that takes into account something that appeals to the tribbles, this can be seen as acknowledging and integrating the bits of the unconscious material into the ego, to make it stronger and the psyche more whole.
