Synopsis: The Star Trek Scouts crumble a cookie asteroid with a glass of milk.
This episode can be seen as an illustration of Carl (C. G.) Jung’s concept of projection, when an individual projects bits of their own unconscious onto another.
“Star Trek Scouts CRUMBLE a Cookie Asteroid! – Asteroid Blaster #9” began with Sprocket using a replicator to create food that JR named and Bubbles, the baby targ, eating as soon as it appeared. The asteroid alarm went off. An asteroid was heading straight for the Star Trek Scouts. Sprocket identified it as a Cookie Asteroid from the Bakers Galaxy with extra chocolate chips. The asteroid deflector wheel was activated and rainbow sprinkles were chosen as the weapon to use against the asteroid. The rainbow sprinkles were energized and fired into the asteroid. It did not work. Instead it made the cookie more colorful. The asteroid deflector wheel was activated again, and the next weapon chosen was a stinky old boot. But before it could be launched, Finn appeared and he had Sprocket’s replicator. He started replicating food, and making it appear all over the bridge, making a mess. Roo had an idea. She asked Sprocket for a mirror. Roo turned the mirror onto Finn, and the beam of the replicator was turned back on him, so that the food he was replicating now appeared on him. Bubbles then chased Finn out the door. A glass of milk was chosen as the next weapon to use against the asteroid. The milk was successful in crumbling the cookie into bite sized pieces.
In this episode, when Roo used the mirror to reflect the beam from the replicator back onto Finn, this can be analogized to when an individual projects bits of unconscious material onto another. If the unconscious material is part of an individual’s shadow, then animosity will be created against the other. If the unconscious material is part of an individual’s ideal other, then friendship or romance can develop. But in either case, once an individual realizes that they are projecting bits of their own unconscious onto the other, then the projection can stop, and the other individual can be seen for who they really are. At the same time, the individual who was doing the projection incorporates what was once unconscious into the conscious ego, making it stronger and the psyche more whole.
