Synopsis: The Star Trek Scouts defeat a booger asteroid using a tissue.
This episode can be seen as an illustration of Carl (C. G.) Jung’s concept of an unconscious complex, and how when it becomes conscious psychic healing can take place.
“Star Trek Scouts Blast a BOOGER Asteroid in Space! – Asteroid Blaster #5” began with Star trying to make the targ sneeze. Then the asteroid alarm went off. An asteroid was heading straight for the Star Trek Scouts. Sprocket identified it as a Booger Asteroid from the Borg Booger Barrier. The asteroid deflector wheel was activated and stinky Ferengian beans were chosen as the weapon to use against the asteroid. The asteroid deflector was activated and the stinky Ferengian beans were fired into the asteroid. It did not work, the asteroid became even more gooey. The asteroid deflector wheel was activated again, and the next weapon chosen was a boomerang. But the boomerang missed the target and headed back toward the Star Trek Scouts. Roo took a hoverboard outside the Star Trek Scouts headquarters and caught the boomerang before it crashed into it. Then the last tool had to be chosen, a tissue. The tissue was able to contain the asteroid. But small pieces of the asteroid still rained down upon the Star Trek Scouts, but the pieces were smaller and could be cleaned up.
In this episode, when the tissue was able to contain the asteroid, yet small pieces of it still fell to Earth, this can be analogized to when an unconscious complex becomes conscious in an individual’s psyche, and can then be integrated into the conscious ego fragment by fragment. This method is part of the ongoing operation of the union of opposites, or transcendent function, and part of the lifelong process Jung called individuation, the way a person becomes a psychological individual.
