Star Trek: Prodigy – Season 1, Episode 20: “Supernova, Part 2”

Synopsis: The crew of the U.S.S. Protostar devises a plan to save Starfleet and themselves from the Living Construct weapon.

This episode can be seen as an illustration of James Hillman’s acorn theory—that just as an acorn has everything inside it to become an oak tree, we all have inner daimons, with all the information we need to become who we were meant to be.

In “Supernova, Part 2,” the crew of the U.S.S. Protostar witness the destruction being caused by the Living Construct weapon and devise a plan to stop it. They will send the Protostar into a different time and space, and at the same time they will destroy her and the weapon. The crew escapes in a shuttle while Hologram Janeway stays behind to detonate the device, or as Rok-Tahk stated: “letting a young star be what it’s meant to be” (K. Hageman et al., 2022). The plan is successful, all charges are dropped against the crew, and although they are not admitted to Starfleet Academy, they are assigned to train as warrant officers. Except for Gwyn, who will go back to her planet and try to save it.

In this episode, Rok-Tahk re-states what is at the core of Hillman’s acorn theory, that we all have a destiny, and just as the acorn has everything inside it to fulfill it’s place in the world, or universe, so do we.
