Star Trek: Prodigy – Season 1, Episode 8: “Time Amok”

Synopsis: The U.S.S. Protostar experiences a time anomaly when the ship goes through a tachyon storm.

This episode can be seen as an illustration of James Hillman’s acorn theory.

In “Time Amok” the U.S.S. Protostar heads into a tachyon storm which results in the crew experiencing a time anomaly, in which the crew members pass through time at different speeds. In order to save the vessel, Hologram Janeway must unite the crew in their different time speeds by having them each build upon the work of the other crew members. Because Rok-Tahk was caught in the space where time moved slower for her than the rest of the crew, it was up to her to learn the skills needed to create a warp matrix and install it to save the Protostar.

In this episode, Rok-Tahk, not content to be considered a security officer just because of her size, lives up to her abilities in learning the skills needed to save the Protostar. This can be seen as her listening to what Hillman would call her inner daimon. Hillman wrote that just as an acorn has everything inside it to become an oak tree, we all have an inner daimon that has all the information we need inside us to become who we were meant to be, if we only pay attention to it. This is his acorn theory.
