Synopsis: The Diviner finds the U.S.S. Protostar, but the ship is able to escape using her protostar drive.
This episode can be seen as an illustration of James Hillman’s acorn theory, that just as an acorn has everything it needs inside it to become an acorn, we all have inner daimons with all the information we need inside us to become who we are meant to be.
In “Terror Firma,” Hologram Janeway sends the coordinates of the U.S.S. Protostar to the crew hoping that they will return to the vessel before the living vines devour the ship. Meanwhile, The Diviner reaches the planet, and in trying to defend the rest of the crew from Drednok, Gwyn is separated from them. The Diviner discovers the location of the Protostar and chooses to try to free the vessel from the living vines rather than helping Gwyn, who is also being threatened by them. The crew comes to Gwyn’s rescue and Protostar launches into space. The Diviner’s ship follows and captures the Protostar in a tractor beam. At this point, Fugitive Zero realizes that the Protostar has a miniature protostar inside her that is powering another source of propulsion. Gwyn engages the protostar drive and the ship escapes the sensors of The Diviner’s ship.
In this episode, the Protostar containing a miniature protostar system can be compared to how an acorn has everything it needs to become an oak tree inside it. In the case of the Protostar, this protostar drive is what makes it unique in the universe and also gives the ship her identity. This is similar to how we all have inside us inner daimons that contain everything that make us unique in the world and give us our own individual personality. The concept that we have these inner daimons inside us, that have all the information we need to become who we are, if we only pay attention, is Hillman’s acorn theory.
