Synopsis: On the prison colony Tars Lamora, Dal R’El and several others locate an abandoned starship.
This episode can be seen as illustrations of James Hillman’s acorn theory, that just as an acorn has everything it needs inside it to become an oak tree, we all have inner daimons with all the information we need to become who we were meant to be.
In “Lost and Found, Part I and Part II,” a young individual from an unknown species, Dal R’El, has an idea of how to escape from the prison colony, Tars Lamora. He runs away but is then brought back to be questioned about another individual on the planet, a Medusan called Fugitive Zero. Dal R’El tries to escape again, this time tethered to a Brikar, named Rok-Tahk. They fall into a pile of crystals and discover an abandoned starship, the U.S.S. Protostar. Fugitive Zero finds them as well, and they decide to use the ship to escape, but need a mechanic to get her started. They then add to their group a Tellarite named Jankom Pog. Rok-Tahk also invites a gelatinous lifeform named Murf to join them. Gwyn, the daughter of The Diviner, who is in charge of Tars Lamora, comes looking for Dal R’El, and finds the ship. She is brought aboard the Protostar as a hostage and the ship takes flight. Shortly thereafter, a hologram of Starfleet Captain Kathryn Janeway appears and introduces herself as Hologram Janeway, their Training Advisor.
In this episode, the different individuals all had their own strengths which when used together allowed them to escape from the prison colony. For example, Dal R’El had cunning and audacity, Rok-Tahk had strength, Fugitive Zero had intelligence and technical abilities, while Jankom Pog had mechanical expertise. Each of them had their own special skill set and used them to the best of their abilities in order for them to be able to escape. This can be compared to Hillman’s acorn theory in that they all listened to their own inner daimons as to what they were meant to be, even in the dire circumstances that they were in at Tars Lamora. Utilizing their special skills kept them alive in the prison colony and also allowed them to escape it.
