Star Trek: Enterprise Season 4, Episode 13: “United”

Synopsis: Captain Archer unites the Andorians, Tellurites, and Vulcans, in an effort to stop the Romulan drone vessel that has been attacking ship of other species.

This episode can be seen as an illustration of how the different archetypal energies within one’s psyche are complementary to each other and can work together.

In “United” Captain Jonathan Archer has a plan to find the Romulan drone ship that has been attacking vessels of various species disguised as vessels from other species, in an attempt to enflame hostilities between them. Because this needs a large number of vessels, he persuades the Andorians, Tellurites, and Vulcans to aid Enterprise. The Romulan vessel is found, but unfortunately gets away. However, the cooperation that was required between the other species sustains that disappointment and becomes a stronger alliance.

In this episode, the unification of the forces between the Andorians, Tellurites, Vulcans, and humans, even though their beliefs and ways of doing things are different, can be analogized to the complementary archetypal energies found in each of our psyches. Working together, instead of trying to dominate each other, created an alliance in this episode. Similarly, when the complementary archetypes in our psyches are in harmony they make it stronger and more whole.
