Synopsis: The crew of the Enterprise encounter a genetically engineered society that is threatened by an approaching stellar core fragment.
In this episode the crew of the Enterprise discovers a settlement inside a biodome on an otherwise inhospitable looking planet. But inside the biodome are the descendants of a genetically engineered society that had its origins on Earth. The scientists that created it over two hundred years ago bred out diseases and genetic mutations and bred into it specific unique traits to each individual that would allow them to flourish in their pre-ordained career paths. Each individual integrally related to the community and the ecology inside the dome. The outside of the dome being inhospitable to life.
This recreation of life seems dubious to the crew of the Enterprise because, while there doesn’t seem to be any strife in the community, the inhabitants of the society seem to have no choice. That is until the crew of the Enterprise comes along. For some of the inhabitants of “The Masterpiece Society” as soon as they see that there is something else out there outside the dome of their conscious ego-driven reality, they want to explore. They want more. They want to engage with not only the orderly known conscious existence to them but to explore the unknown. This does not have to stay in science fiction as this is what it is like to study depth psychology. To try to integrate the unknown and often repressed parts of our unconscious into our conscious reality, in order to be more whole. More authentic. More real. My hope in these blog posts is to inspire that desire in some of you.
