Synopsis: Captain Picard feels he must speak out when an admiral comes aboard his ship to investigate a traitor and turns it into a witch hunt.
Just as this episode shows us what happens when a society becomes too one sided, there is a problem in our psyches when we become one-sided, when we identify too much with the conscious ego and ignore the unconscious.
In this episode Admiral Nora Satie is so sure that she is right and that her way is the only way to proceed, she stomps over the rights of some of the members of the crew of the Enterprise, including Captain Jean-Luc Picard. In the end though, she is brought down harshly.
This illustrates what happens when our egos become inflated, believing that its way is the only way. The unconscious will eventually bring it down hard, but unlike the case of Satie, there is no retiring from this process. It is ongoing throughout our lives if we are aware enough to acknowledge it.
